The abortion pill

De abortuspil

This procedure involves medication and consists of two stages.  The first stage is in the clinic where we will give you a tablet to be taken with water.  The pill will stop the pregnancy.  This stage is normally problem free.

The next stage takes place in your own home.  After 24 hours and up to 72 hours you’ll have to put four small pills in your vagina.  These will cause a miscarriage.

After four to six hours you will get some cramps and bleeding.  It may be just a little, sometimes less than your normal period, but it may also be much more.  We advise you to have someone with you who can support you.

This method is very safe but it is difficult to predict how your body will react.  Most of the pain disappears a few hours after the insertion of the pills.  You may experience bleeding on and off between one and six weeks.  Be aware that you can become pregnant straightaway after the procedure.

Pros

  • Short time in the clinic
  • Procedure continued in your own home

Cons

  • Bleeding may be a little longer than during your normal period
  • In some cases, this method may be painful
